The Slow Fashion cluster approaches the 'wicked problem' of textile sustainability with research and knowledge-exchange activities, and an openness to the idea that non-academic approaches—such as traditional ecological and grassroots practices—have valuable knowledge to contribute.
In our experience, concrete advancement on sustainable textiles will not happen without sharing the developing knowledge to a wider public and beyond disciplinary boundaries. Our interdisciplinary and cross sectoral membership permits collegial exchange between researchers in different fields, connecting academic communities to makers and producers involved with customary practice knowledge, Indigenous bodies of knowledge, and industry and business partners.
