The Slow Fashion Research Cluster is launching the Slow Fashion Fellowship Program for the 2026-2027 UBC academic year. This program invites a cohort of five UBC undergraduate and/or graduate students to engage critically with issues surrounding fashion along the entire supply chain. Collaboratively alongside Slow Fashion Season leads, fellows will engage with circularity, more-sustainable methodologies, and global Traditional Ecological Knowledge — from fabric production to garment construction and reuse. Fellows will participate in established programming, including workshops, seminars, and hands-on harvesting sessions at the Fabric of Campus Fibre Garden. With support, each participant will also create their own programming, centred around a relevant topic. Who Should Apply
Eligibility:
The Slow Fashion Fellowship is ideal for students who want to:
Learn and engage with topics surrounding slow fashion, sustainable fibre, and circularity in textile production
Build interdisciplinary connections with artists, researchers, and other students
Develop collaborative and leadership skills through workshop planning, and helping to establish a foundation (guidance documentation in any format/medium) for future fellowship cohorts to build upon
Share knowledge, skills and expertise with other students at UBC and across Metro Vancouver, and community members.
Expectations and Deliverables
The expectation is a minimum 4-hour commitment per month. This includes:
A minimum of one meeting each month (Sept 2026 - April 2027) at UBC with SFS staff to discuss workshop planning and receive feedback and support.
Attending at least five (distributed throughout the year) of the upcoming Slow Fashion Season events, listed on the Instagram.
The planning and hosting of one workshop in the 2026/2027 academic year, between September and the end of April. This workshop can be self-delivered or involve inviting another facilitator.
Honorarium
Selected fellows will be granted:
$500 CAD honorarium after completing the fellowship outcomes.
$400 CAD, available for the invitation of a facilitator, or to the fellow, should they choose to self-deliver the workshop/event/activity.
$100 CAD will be allocated to each fellow for the purchase of supplies and materials.
